Lisboa, from the Real Fábrica das Sedas to the Bloco das Águas Livres

Last Saturday - March 16th - Lisboa Architecture Walks & Trips organized another open urban walk. This time in collaboration with Ester Donninelli / CITYTIME Architecture Art Cityscape.

How did Lisbon transform along the urban axis between Largo do Rato and Amoreiras, since the foundation of the Real Fábrica das Sedas (1734) until the construction of the Bloco das Águas Livres (1950’s)?

The topic of water, as a resource and urban landmark, guided our tour. With plans, maps and drawings at hand, we discovered what existing buildings and places can tell us about the major reforms that determined the relation the city has been establishing with the monumental water infrastructures (of the aqueduct) throughout the time, and about the present configuration of this urban axis.

We have visited the interior of two amazing buildings: the Reservatório da Mãe d'Água das Amoreiras (water reservoir), and the modern Bloco das Águas Livres.
